Another Hollywood Split: Niupita Nyong’O and Selema Masekela Call It Quits
Despite the endless romantic movies, some stars just aren’t meant for happily ever afters. Lupita Nyong’o split with her boyfriend, Selema Masekela. What’s surprising is the separation came a day after she was snapped having a cozy time with newly divorced Joshua Jackson.
The 45-year-old Dawson’s Creek alum was married to 37-year-old Jodie Turner-Smith with whom he shares a three-year-old daughter, Juno Rose Diana. Photos caught Joshua and 40-year-old Niupita sitting closely together as they attended the Janelle Monae gig in Inglewood, Los Angeles.
There was even a photograph of Joshua and Lupita looking into each other’s eyes and laughing together as the two enjoyed The Age of Pleasure show.
The Black Panther actress took to Instagram where she posted a cryptic update that seemed to talk about a breakup, deception, and heartbreak.
Her post read, “There are much more important things going on in the world right now, and my thoughts are with those who are deeply suffering. At this moment, it is necessary for me to share a personal truth and publicly dissociate myself from someone I can no longer trust…”
She continued, “I find myself in a season of heartbreak because of a love suddenly and devastatingly extinguished by deception. I am tempted to run into the shadows and hide, only to return to the light when I have regained my strength enough for me to say, ‘Whatever, my life is better this way.'”
Lupita went on, “But I am reminded that the magnitude of the pain I am feeling is equal to the measure of my capacity for love. And so, I am choosing to face the pain, cultivating the courage to meet my life exactly as it is, and trusting that this too shall pass. The promise, they say, is that a tender heart is what gives birth to fearlessness. I hope it’s true… I share this to keep it, and hoping that the knowledge of my experience might be useful to someone else out there experiencing the grip of heartbreak who is poised to try and escape from the pain and miss out on the wisdom that comes from it. # Breakup” She ended her lengthy post with, “Let’s face our pain so we don’t spread it.”
Lupita and the 52-year-old Selema started dating in 2022. Last December, Lupita and her partner shared videos on their social media profiles, making them Instagram official. The video showed them wearing different outfits while “The King’s Affirmation – Chill Mix feat. Reuel Williams” played in the background.
Recall that Lupita captioned the video with “We just click!” before tagging Selema’s IG handle and using the hashtags #nuffsaid and #thisismylove.
Selema, the co-founder of surfing apparel company Mami Wata, hasn’t commented on the split.
Meanwhile, Joshua’s divorce announcement shocked many since the couple has always been very open and vocal about their affection for each other. Jodie and Joshua divorced after less than four years of marriage. Joshua was reportedly “heartbroken” and said that he would be willing to reunite with his ex.
