“He’s The Coolest Person Ever”: Lily-Rose Depp Gushes Over Younger Brother Jack
Lily-Rose Depp has nothing but admiration for her younger brother, Jack Depp. In a recent conversation with her former Planetarium co-star Natalie Portman for Interview magazine, the actress couldn’t hold back her praise. “He’s the coolest person ever,” she shared warmly.
She also revealed that her latest role in the vampire horror film Nosferatu scored her some serious “cool points” with Jack, who is 22. “This one in particular was big for me, because my brother and I were super obsessed with Dracula when we were younger. My brother used to dress up like Dracula for school when he was a kid,” she recalled.
The excitement about her role came with a fun sibling twist. “I was like, ‘Wow, if I get this part my brother’s going to finally think I’m cool,’” she said, adding, “… It’s the classic thing of when you have a younger sibling, they think you’re so cool when you’re kids, and then when you get older, now I think he’s so cool, and I’m like, ‘Let’s hang!’ And he’s like, ‘I’m busy.’ But yeah, I think I got some points with this one.”
Lily-Rose also reflected on her unique upbringing with parents Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis. She acknowledged the challenges and joys of growing up in a family constantly on the move. “There were moments where I was like, ‘I want to be at school with my friends,’ [but] now that I’m older, I’m so grateful. Not only that I have traveled so much, thanks to my parents having to bring me around, but also for what I now see as the work that they put into making sure that my brother and I had a life in these places that were not ours,” she stated.
She explained how her parents created stability even in the midst of their busy lives. In her words: “And making sure that we had something fun to do on the weekends and a park to go play in. At the time I wouldn’t have seen it, but now I see that as conscious efforts that my parents were making to make me and my brother feel at home,” she added.
The Idol star shared how her parents’ approach also shaped her perspective on privacy. According to her, she grew up “being taught that your private life and your inner life is so precious, and that it really needs to be protected,” she said. This principle has guided her approach to fame and social media.
Lily-Rose also addressed criticism about nepotism in her career. “I love acting. If people still want to talk s— or see me in a certain way, then that’s not my problem. I’ve had to grow into that feeling as well,” she told Vanity Fair.
Despite the pressure of being the daughter of two famous artists, Lily-Rose says she deeply respects her parents and the legacy they’ve created. Describing her parents as incredible artists, she said, “Respecting them both so much and what they do and trying to find my own identity in this world has been interesting when everybody’s thinking that you’re here for the wrong reasons or that you don’t deserve to be here.”
