Katy Perry Accused of Rudeness And Condescension Towards American Idol Contestants — Fans Outraged!
Katy Perry is under fire for her behavior towards contestants on the American Idol show. During Tuesday night’s episode, viewers accused the pop star of being “rude and condescending” to the contestants.
As the show’s Hollywood week began, tensions ran high as one contestant dropped out moments before her duet, while two other partners were left feeling the pressure.
During the episode, Katy was accused of being too harsh on contestants Nutsa Abuza and Carina DeAngelo, who struggled with their performance. Before the two performed, they told the judges that they had a clash.
After their performance, the judges were left unimpressed, and while giving feedback, Lionel Richie said, “I must admit it was a little,” when Katy interrupted to add, “Underwhelming.”
The judges eventually voted to keep Nutsa on the show, with advice from Katy telling her to have more grace.
Host Ryan Seacrest shared behind-the-scenes shots from the show on Instagram, but some fans used the comments section to vent their frustrations about the Teenage Dream star’s behavior. One viewer wrote, “Katy is so rude and condescending to the contestants unless it’s a male cutie, then she acts like a teenage fool. One contestant quit because of her. Bye-bye Katie!”
Another viewer commented, “And the Katy Perry remarks were rude also. Lost control, the show is now contrived and it’s an insult to the viewer! Bye-bye.”
This is not the first time the singer has faced criticism for her behavior on the show, as she was previously accused of “mom-shaming” a contestant, Sarah Beth Liebe, who later quit the competition.
On March 5, Sara revealed that she had given birth to three children before the age of 25. Katy had commented she had “been laying on the table too much,” causing her to be criticized. Sarah later took to TikTok to admit she found the joke “hurtful.”
The mom of three eventually quit the competition, citing the need to “be with her babies” during Sunday’s Hollywood Week episode. “This opportunity is really rad, but this is actually going to be my last performance because my heart’s at home. So, I’m going to get home to my babies. They kind of need me,” she told the judges after a solid performance of The Police 1970s hit Roxanne.
While the judges tried to get her to change her mind, she insisted that her children needed her, and it has been hard staying away from them.
