America’s Fascination And Support For Harry And Meghan May Be Over Too Soon
The Americans are not die-hard royalists, but a good fraction of the population was happy and welcoming when Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, decided to call America their home after stepping down as senior royals and creating an independent life away from The Firm.
But, in the shortest amount of time possible, America’s obsession with The Sussexes has waned, and their popularity has also reached rock bottom. In the UK, the public’s opinion of them could be more pleasant, too. Still, the Americans appeared to be more forgiving and supportive of the couple’s experiences when they were working royals.
However, the US is no longer a big fan either, and this rough patch happened after the release of their Netflix docuseries and then the Duke of Sussex’s memoir, Spare. The reaction of the US public may not be what the couple was expecting, and now, it appears that their continuous release of versions of the truth has tired the public.
Harry and Meghan’s popularity rating has experienced an all-time low in just a month. It has been reported that the couple has been receiving fewer invitations to A-list events and other high-profile gatherings.
The main and silent fear of organizations and celebrities is that instead of the advocacy or primary purpose of the event, Sussex’s presence will make them the center of attention. They also are concerned that in the next few months, they’ll already be included and named in another tell-all interview.
This has become the reputation of the Sussex couple lately, where they share private conversations and then release footage to help them tell their truth. Yes, the couple was hugely popular, but that was then—before Prince Harry released Spare. He has even intimate details of losing his virginity to Sasha Walpole in the book—apparently without her consent.
Before Spare, Prince Harry had a favorability rating of +38 in America, dated December 5, with 2,000 people participating in the poll. And by January 16, that number went down to -7.
Last December, Meghan’s rating was at +23, but by January, it had dropped to a sad -13. Aside from not receiving invites, it has also been reported that some of the couple’s celebrity friendships need to be in better standing.
Recall that when Harry and Meghan had their explosive interview with Oprah in 2021, they released serious allegations against Harry’s family, including racist comments about the then-unborn Archie.
In the interview, a picture of close friendship and mutual trust with Oprah was represented because the couple chose her and her platform to tell their truth.
But according to The Times, the relationship with their Montecito neighbor may not be what the world thinks it is and has become tense as of late.
This speculation heightened during Oprah’s unofficial 69th birthday and the 25th anniversary of the beauty brand Anastasia Beverly Hills, both of which the couple did not attend. Other stars and influences like Jennifer Lopez, Sofia Vergara, and Kim Kardashian were all there, but not Harry and Meghan. This led to some people outrightly concluding that the Queen of Talk snubbed the two.
Kinsey Schofield, an American royal expert, shared with The Times, “I work with several publicists in LA, and they say that Harry and Meghan aren’t considered for high-profile events because the fear is that all eyes will be on them and that will take away from the cause. I think people are starting to hesitate in associating with them because they seem to be a dramatic pair that fixates on the negative.”
So far, the last sighting of the two was during Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi’s renewal of vows.
