Beyoncé May Feature Dolly Parton’s Classic “Jolene” On Upcoming Country Album
In an unexpected twist, the world of country music might soon witness an iconic singer put her spin on another iconic singer’s hit song, as Dolly Parton hinted at Beyoncé possibly including her hit song Jolene on her upcoming country album, Act II.
Dolly, the legendary country singer, disclosed this exciting possibility during an interview with Knox News while discussing the 2024 season opening of Dollywood on Friday. When questioned about rumors surrounding Beyoncé recording her classic track, the 78-year-old songstress responded enthusiastically, stating, “Well, I think she has! I think she’s recorded ‘Jolene’ and I think it’s probably gonna be on her country album, which I’m very excited about that.”
Expressing her admiration for Beyoncé, Dolly exclaimed, “I love her! She’s a beautiful girl and a great singer.” She also revealed that she and the Halo hitmaker have maintained a connection over the years, exchanging messages and sharing mutual admiration.
In the Coat of Many Colors singer’s words, “We’ve kind of sent messages back and forth through the years. And she and her mother were like fans, and I was always touched that they were fans, and I always thought she was great.”
This revelation comes after Dolly previously praised Beyoncé for her single Texas Hold ‘Em, which debuted at the top of the Hot Country chart and made history as Beyoncé became the first Black woman to achieve this feat. Dolly took to Instagram to express her excitement, writing, “I’m a big fan of Beyoncé and very excited that she’s done a country album. So congratulations on your Billboard Hot Country number one single.”
Beyoncé’s announcement of Act II during the Super Bowl hinted at a shift towards country music, following the first act’s focus on dance tracks. Her commercial for Verizon during the game teased the new music, featuring singles like Texas Hold ‘Em and 16 Carriages.
Notably, Beyoncé’s attire at the 2024 Grammys, which included a cowgirl hat, and studded leather suit designed by Pharrell Williams, further fueled speculation about her genre transition.
Embracing the yee-haw vibe, the award-winning singer fully embodies the aesthetic in the artwork for both singles. In the visual for Texas Hold ‘Em, she dons a metallic breastplate alongside a classic black cowboy hat, complemented by a stylish black belt featuring a heart pendant. Similarly, on the cover of 16 Carriages, she sports her signature black cowboy hat, coupled with a studded black button-up shirt, while her blonde locks cascade in a chic wavy bob.
