Prince Harry Back In Britain For First Time, Visits Queen Elizabeth’s Burial Place
Prince Harry has returned to the U.K., sparking fresh speculation about whether this trip will bring a reunion with his father, King Charles. The Duke of Sussex, 40, landed at London’s Heathrow on September 8 and was later photographed traveling by car to Windsor Castle. There, he quietly marked the third anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s death by visiting her burial site at St. George’s Chapel, where he laid a wreath of flowers in her memory.
A spokesperson confirmed the visit, calling it a personal and private moment of reflection. Despite the emotional occasion, a source told PEOPLE that Harry seemed “positive” and “in a really good headspace,” adding that he was looking forward to reconnecting with people from his charities. On Monday evening, he is set to attend the WellChild Awards, one of his longest-running causes supporting seriously ill children.
The big question is whether father and son will see each other. Harry has not been with King Charles, 76, since February, when he flew from California to the U.K. following news of his father’s cancer diagnosis. Over the summer, aides from both households quietly met, described as “a good first step” toward easing tensions. However, nothing has been confirmed about a meeting this week.
One ongoing strain has been Harry’s legal battle with the U.K. government over the loss of his taxpayer-funded security. He lost his appeal in May, later telling the BBC that while he longs for reconciliation, safety concerns prevent him from bringing Meghan Markle and their two children, Archie and Lilibet, back to Britain.
“Life is precious. I don’t know how much longer my father has,” he said, noting that the security matter “could be resolved” if the King allowed experts to handle it. The palace has repeatedly denied Charles has the authority to intervene.
Harry has been back to the U.K. several times this year, including for the Invictus Games’ 10th anniversary service and another WellChild Awards ceremony. He also returned for his court hearing and privately for his uncle Lord Robert Fellowes’ memorial, which Prince William attended as well though the brothers reportedly kept their distance.
