Sebastian Stan’s Mom Wanted Him To Shave Before The Oscars

Sebastian Stan made the 97th Academy Awards a family affair by bringing his biggest supporter — his mom, Georgeta Orlovschi! The 42-year-old actor, nominated for Best Actor for his role in The Apprentice, walked the red carpet with his mother at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on March 2. It was a special night for Stan, marking his first-ever Oscar nomination.
While Georgeta was thrilled to be by his side, she didn’t exactly love one detail about his look. During a chat with E! News, Stan revealed that she “was very upset I didn’t shave tonight.”
But he had a good reason. “I told her I can’t because I have to do this other role,” he explained, referring to his upcoming part in Marvel’s Thunderbolts. Still, that didn’t stop her from wishing he had gone for a clean-shaven look.
Despite her beard-related disappointment, Georgeta couldn’t be prouder of her son. “He works very hard, so he deserves the best,” she gushed. “I can’t be more proud. He’s adorable.”
This isn’t the first time Stan has opened up about his mother’s influence. In a September 2024 chat with Colman Domingo on The A24 Podcast, he shared a memorable piece of advice she gave him. “I love [my mom]. But here’s what she said to me recently when she came to visit me…I’m like, ‘Oh, yeah, everything’s great. Thank you so much.’ And she goes, ‘I have to tell you something, but don’t get upset,'” Stan recalled.
Already feeling a little anxious, Stan braced himself. “And she goes, ‘I know you’re an actor and everything, but maybe you can express a little less because … I can see these lines,'” he added.
Stan’s talent has been widely recognized this awards season, as 2024 has been packed with success for him. Not only did The Apprentice earn the actor an Oscar nod for his portrayal of a young Donald Trump in the 1970s and 1980s, but another one of his films, A Different Man, was also recognized at the awards. The psychological drama received a nomination for Best Makeup and Hairstyling.
