Tim McGraw Credits Wife, Faith Hill, for Keeping Him Alive and on Track
For Tim McGraw, the saying that behind every successful man is a woman is 100% accurate.
During the Zane Lowe on Apple Music podcast published on August 25, Tim admitted, “I guarantee you, had I not gotten married to Faith at 29 years old, I probably A – would have run my career into the ground and B – I would have died or ran my career into the ground one or the other.”
As a former alcoholic, Time has confessed to drinking whiskey and finding it difficult to limit how much he drank. It began affecting him “to the point where I felt it was negatively affecting my relationships and getting in the way of things I wanted to accomplish in life.”
Sober since 2008, the Grammy Award artist recalls how his wife, fellow country singer Faith Hill, put up with all his crazy and deceitful ways. He commended her for standing her ground when it was necessary and for helping him raise three daughters.
In an interview with Esquire, he revealed a particularly pivotal moment in his battle for sobriety. He recalls waking up early to drink alcohol and panicking. Tim shared, “I remember a moment when I was getting out of bed and going to the liquor cabinet and taking a big shot at 8:00 in the morning and thinking, ‘I have to wake the kids up.”
He continued, “I went straight to my wife and said, ‘This is where I’m at.’ I was scared. She just grabbed me and hugged me and changed my life.”
According to Tim, Faith encouraged him to figure out his life, especially since their kids were old enough to know what was happening.
Fortunately, Faith’s dedication to their family paid off. The wake-up call she gave Tim and her unwavering presence worked. To this day, the 55-year-old female singer has remained steadfast in supporting her husband. She even recently posted a photo of Tim on social media with the caption, “Still, after all this time and so many albums, you never cease to amaze me.”
Faith commended her husband, “You are an absolute master of your art in every way. Congratulations! My love. We are so proud of you.”
He further shared during the podcast that working out and staying in shape has become a form of therapy for him. Tim explained that he does his best not to skip a day of his physical fitness routine. The artist says that working out clears his head and inspires creativity.
Last August 23, the 55-year-old country crooner was honored during the 16th Annual ACM Honors. In a rare red carpet appearance, Tim and his entire family, including his three daughters, were in attendance.
Immensely proud of his family, Tim shared in a Rob + Holly podcast, “…what I’m most grateful for is just how normal our kids are and how grounded they are and how much they respect themselves and other people. It makes me feel like we’ve done a pretty decent job, especially Mom.”
