Beatles’ Sons Join Forces For Epic New Track

The sons of The Beatles are stepping out from behind their famous shadows and into the studio together. In what feels like a twist straight out of rock-and-roll fantasy, three children of the singers have teamed up for a bold, unexpected track. But don’t call it a Beatles reboot. This is something entirely their own.
Zak Starkey, son of Ringo Starr, recently took to Instagram to share a clip of a new song titled Rip Off, and it features Sean Ono Lennon (son of John Lennon) and James McCartney (Paul McCartney’s only son). For the first time ever, these three next-generation icons have come together on the same track.
The song, which blends gritty rock vibes with cosmic undertones, is performed by Mantra of the Cosmos, Zak’s supergroup that also includes Oasis bassist Andy Bell and Happy Mondays members Shaun Ryder and Mark Berry. While their music might echo elements of the Fab Four, Zak was quick to set the record straight.
Clarifying that it’s not The Beatles, Zak said in a recent interview, “It’s Mantra of the Cosmos with them in it. It’s Sean of the Cosmos and James of the Cosmos, it’s still my band.”
Still, the moment feels historic. Three sons of music royalty, carving out their own lane. And for fans, it’s hard not to hear those familiar genes in the music.
Sean, now 49, has been in the spotlight since birth. He’s long made a name for himself with experimental and alternative music, collaborating with big names like Lana Del Rey. Growing up as the son of John and Yoko, Sean once told Rolling Stone in 1998, “You don’t choose your name, you don’t choose your parents. You’re hurled into this earth, and life hits you.”
James, 47, has faced his own battles with legacy. In a 2013 interview, he admitted how hard it’s been to live in the shadow of his legendary dad. “Even Dad found it hard living up to the Beatles,” he said. “I started out playing under an alias.”
But recently, Sean and James have grown musically closer. In April 2024, they released a soft, heartfelt track called Primrose Hill. James wrote on Instagram, “With the release of this song it feels like we’re really getting the ball rolling.”
Now, just two months later, the ball has rolled straight into Zak’s universe.
Interestingly, Zak, who has also drummed for The Who, has had his fair share of ups and downs. He recently revealed he was “retired” from The Who after some confusing behind-the-scenes drama. But instead of slowing down, he’s charged ahead with a project that might just become his most iconic yet.
