The Return Of Johnny Depp As MTV Video Music Awards Moonman
Johnny Depp is rumored to take on a different and more prominent role as the Moonman in the upcoming MTV Music Awards.
Johnny Depp has been best known for portraying eccentric characters in the last four decades. His unique characters like Edward Scissorhands, Willy Wonka, Sweeney Todd, and the Mad Hatter are not typical roles, but Johnny nails these personas naturally and seamlessly. No wonder the 59-year-old actor is alluded to as the network’s fictional and real-life mascot.
Although Depp is not nominated for any awards this year, he has already received his fair share of accolades, notably MTV Movie Awards for Best Villain, Best Male Performance, Generation Award, and Global Superstar. Johnny Depp’s ever-changing look makes him a perfect fit for the Moonman honor. This is certain to be a highlight this August 28, 2022.
Depp is also poised to star in La Favorite, a French period film, his first project since his famous defamation case with ex-wife Amber Heard. Johnny Depp will play King Louis XV, starring with Maiwenn Le Besco, who will direct the film while also playing the story’s main character, Jeanne du Barry, King Louis’ mistress.
Le Besco enjoyed stellar success before and after directing the critically acclaimed Mon Roi and Polisse. The film is due for shoot this summer and is considered Johnny’s comeback movie. It will also be the Pirates of the Caribbean star’s first French film. The movie will be released in 2023. The movie’s budget has not been disclosed yet, but Depp is said to have an upfront fee of $20 million. This comeback ends Depp’s “blacklisted” status following his ex-wife’s domestic violence allegations.
Recall that due to these accusations, some companies blindly dropped Depp and even forced him to resign from the Warner Brother’s Fantastic Beasts franchise. But after winning the defamation suit, Depp is back with a vengeance as he appears to be garnering the attention of many.
According to reports, Depp may reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in another Pirates of the Caribbean film, despite his declarations during the trials that he would not return to the movie even if Disney handed him $300 million. As a result, Disney allegedly offered the star $301 million.
Depp’s most recent movie, Minimata, released in 2020. Unfortunately, the film based on the life of war photographer W. Eugene Smith bombed at the box office. The film only made $1.7 million worldwide, and with a budget of $13 million, it was a loss. Depp gained $3 million for that movie after the financing of the movie became shaky.
Earlier this week, there was also news that Depp would direct Modigliani, a biopic centered on the Italian sculptor and painter Amedeo Modigliani. Depp is co-producing this film with Al Pacino and Barry Navidi, and its production is set to begin in Spring 2023 in Europe.
