Eva Mendes Claims She Never Left Acting And Explains Her Hiatus From The Film Industry
Eva Mendes hasn’t been seen in a new project for years, and many assumed that she had just disappeared from Hollywood’s glitz and glam.
This speculation proved untrue, as Eva herself clarified the concern. According to the Cuban-American actress, she never left the industry and certainly did not quit her acting career. Yes, she stopped appearing in films, but she has a perfectly reasonable explanation.
Eva made a name for herself when she performed in Ghost Rider with Hollywood favorite Nicolas Cage and then in the movie Hitch with Will Smith.
Everybody expected Eva to ride the momentum and popularity with the much-needed boost in her career. Still, in eight years—from 2013 until last year—the actress and model only appeared three times on television and in the movies.
This limited exposure might jeopardize any career because people tend to forget easily.
So what happened to Eva Mendes?
Eva clarified this concern to her 2.9 million Instagram followers. She started by directly answering that she didn’t quit acting, never did.
Her honest answer came after she posted a video containing various articles from various sources claiming that the actress had retired. To set the record straight, Eva posted that acting took plenty of time away from her children. And as a mother, she wanted to spend time and be home with her kids.
She could do what she wanted, thanks to her other business projects, and staying home was not an option if she accepted any more acting projects.
Recall that the 48-year-old actress is married to Hollywood actor Ryan Gosling, and they have two children together. The two worked together in The Place Beyond the Pines 2012, an American crime drama. They started going out a year before the film’s release.
Today, they are proud parents to two girls—8-year-old Esmeralda and 6-year-old Amada Lee.
And to further explain her side of the situation, Eva was honest in sharing that part of their hiatus was owing to the type of projects that were coming her way.
The “stereotypical roles” no longer excite her, especially after working on her and her husband’s dream project.
Before her voice character project for Bluey in 2021, Eva was part of the film Lost River, directed by her husband, Ryan. Her role was that of a cabaret performer, and Eva feels it is not easy to top her performance in the movie, especially when portraying a similar role.
Fans were happy to know that the actress is still active in Hollywood, but some are still wondering if Eva has any upcoming projects they can look forward to. Some rumors surfaced earlier this year that the actress was picky or, to be more subtle, very specific in choosing her work.
The actress also denied this, claiming that she only has a few options. Before having the kids, she was game to do anything so long as the project was fun, but post-kids, Eva is not too keen on being involved in storylines that involve violence and sexuality.
But for the sake of her fans who want to see Eva soon, she will be making an appearance on November 19 at the McHappy Day. This fundraiser offers accommodations to children and their families while they are being treated in the hospital. McHappy also gives emergency care to children in need.
