I’ve Always Wanted To Share: Naomi Campbell Says of Newly Launched MasterClass
Naomi Campbell is looking to teach other women to model like a boss with her new masterclass.
Following the launch of her first masterclass on modeling fundamentals last week, the supermodel spoke to PEOPLE about why she felt the need to share her expertise.
For the 52-year-old, her masterclass is not just another means to make money. “I’ve always wanted to share,” she stated. She also added that she likes mentoring and that the lessons in her masterclass just served as an “extension of mentoring.”
In a world where there isn’t a book or lesson on the modeling business, Naomi believes her masterclass will be of value to many women out there. She believes the lessons therein will open people’s eyes to see beyond the extravagant shield the modeling industry is covered in and see the realities beneath.
“It’s not like they think it is,” she said in her interview with PEOPLE, adding that models work hard. But with her instructions, she hopes members can learn how to build a successful modeling career.
The masterclass includes lessons from developing a signature walk to finding an agent and handling contracts, and building a versatile lookbook. Her class will also show people how to dig inside and find their confidence.
Founder and CEO of Masterclass David Rogier had good words for the masterclass in a press release. “In her class, she teaches members how to harness their power and show up as their best selves, both in front of the camera and in everyday life,” he stated.
Reflecting on what led her to the MasterClass, Naomi said she thought it was time to give back and share. “I’m now in the place where I want to open and share a lot of things that I never did before. So this is one of the first,” she said.
In the interview, she also shared a piece of advice that she says is the best one she has ever received in her career. The key to success in modeling, as advised by her mother, Valerie Morris, is full commitment.
“The best advice my mother ever told me was if I’m going to be in this business that I have to give 110% and give the full commitment in whatever you say yes to doing,” she revealed. This conviction is what shaped her life, as she believes in working at everything.
The mom of one sees everything she does as a challenge and a “different facet.” This outlook helps her tackle each task head-on. And of the challenges, she “loves” and embraces them.
