Sofía Vergara Misses Emmys After Sudden Eye Allergy Sends Her To ER

Sofía Vergara was supposed to shine onstage at the 2025 Emmys but instead, she ended up under harsh hospital lights. The Modern Family star, 53, revealed on Instagram that she had to skip television’s biggest night after being hit with what she described as the “craziest eye allergy” just before leaving for the ceremony.
“Didn’t make it to the Emmys but made it to the ER 🤣😩,” she wrote alongside a close-up shot of her swollen left eye.
She added, “Sorry I had to cancel! Craziest eye [allergy] right before getting in the car!”
In her carousel post, Sofía shared not just the photo, but also a video of herself rinsing her eye at a hospital sink and another of her lying in a hospital bed (gown, wristband and all), looking more like a patient than a presenter.
She was scheduled to be part of the night’s lineup of A-list presenters, which included Angela Bassett, Jennifer Coolidge, Jason Bateman, Colman Domingo, Kristen Bell, Sarah Paulson and Jude Law. Eric Dane was another no-show, as the 52-year-old Grey’s Anatomy alum, who is battling ALS, was also announced as a presenter but did not appear.
The 2025 Emmys, hosted by comedian Nate Bargatze, saw a mix of historic wins and emotional speeches. HBO Max’s The Pitt and Apple TV+’s The Studio were crowned Outstanding Drama and Comedy Series, while Adolescence swept the Limited/Anthology categories, taking home every major acting prize. Teen actor Owen Cooper, just 15, made history as the youngest male ever to win a Supporting Actor Emmy in the Limited/Anthology category, while Tramell Tillman became the first Black man to win Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his role in Severance. Meanwhile, The Studio smashed records, becoming the most awarded comedy in a single Emmys season.
Stephen Colbert also delivered one of the night’s most memorable speeches as his now-canceled The Late Show won Outstanding Talk Series.
